Planmed Verity

Orthopedic Imaging

Planmed Verity detects subtle fracture lines that are often overlooked when using 2D X-ray imaging. In contrast to full-body CTs, this extremity scanner is distinguished by higher resolution, patient adaptability and lower radiation doses. Its design is welcoming and friendly with an individual touch. The device’s appearance is characterised by a teardrop-shaped imaging bore and the so-called “bite” in the outer rim, which makes patient positioning easier. The adjustable gantry, with its soft surface and various positioning options, moreover supports the comfortable position of the patient.

Color Doppler Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging System

The DC-N3 colour Doppler diagnostic ultrasound imaging system is designed to meet the daily requirements of an interdisciplinary hospital environment. An impressive number of ten ultrasonic probes makes it easy to adjust to varying examination requirements.

The height-adjustable, swivelling operating panel is complemented by a 180-degree-rotatable LCD monitor which, in combination with the two-level foot rest, makes the system comfortable to use in any situation.

Glucometer

Many have dreamed of a painless, noninvasive glucose meter that wouldn't require a person with diabetes to have to prick their finger to get a reading. Grove instruments is close to having a technology ready that would solve this problem. This project was an exercise to imagine what the new meter would look like and how it would operate should the technology become available

This technology falls in the near-infrared region and only requires an individual to insert their finger into the device where a pad gently presses against the fingertip optically assessing the tissue in both the blood-filled and bloodless states. The device uses this information to calculate the blood glucose level. User’s are spared the trauma of pain, the neddlestick and bleeding.

100BPM

helps to save lives by greatly increasing the success rate of administering Compression-Only CPR to an adult after a cardiac arrest. 100BPM gives the rescuer tangible feedback through sound and light, for the two most important factors for success of the procedure: compression depth and frequency of the compression.

Feedback for the depth of the chest compressions is conveyed through light in anintuitive and clear way. The product uses the surface area surrounding therescuer’s hands as an interface space, which is always easily visible when inuse. Rows of LED’s form a depth scale around the hands and illuminate in yellow (for too shallow), green (for correct depth) or red (for too deep).
A 100BPM beat guides the rescuer to achieve the correct compression frequency.

100BPM also considers the stress and emotional stages the rescuer experiences overtime. Instructional voice commands are given to help guide the user as they learn the correct technique. The product regularly updates the rescuer of theamount of time that has passed, and gives them motivational messages to keep going, and save a life.

3D Printers Deliver Competitive Alternative to Traditional Prosthetic Limbs

3D Printers Deliver Competitive Alternative to Traditional Prosthetic Limbs

San Francisco-based Bespoke Innovations builds and sells custom-designed prosthetic human body parts created from 3D printing machines. The printers generate limb casings wrapped in embroidered leather, metal, or other materials.

A custom prosthesis was printed using 3D SLS equipment.
Company co-founder Scott Summit built a scan-ning device to examine limbs using a camera. After the scan, a detailed image is transmitted to a computer and Summit begins sculpting his limb art. He uses a 3D printer to create plastic shells that fit around the prosthetic limbs, and then wraps the shells in any flexible material the customer desires. Then the custom prosthesis is printed using 3D Systems Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) equipment.
He and his orthopedic surgeon partner Kenneth B. Trauner build test models of complete legs that have sophisticated features such as body symmetry, locking knees, and flexing ankles. One artistic design is metal-plated in some areas and leather-wrapped in others. “It costs $5,000 to $6,000 to print one of these legs, and it has features that are not available in existing prosthetic legs that cost $60,000 today,” Summit said. “We want people to provide input and select their options,” he added. “It’s about going from the Model T to something like a Mini that has 10 million permutations.

EVA System for Vitreoretinal and Cataract Surgery

EVA is a combined system for vitreoretinal and cataract surgery. At the heart of EVA is a revolutionary fluidcontrol system, the so-called VacuFlow VTi with timing intelligence valve control. This gives the surgeon control over flow and vacuum during eye surgery

The use of high-quality materials reflects the instruments high precision. Thanks to its modular structure, the system is easy to maintain and a variety of customer specific configurations are possible. The intuitive user interface makes all relevant information readily available for doctors and nurses.

GANYMED Walking Aid

Walking with conventional crutches requires great physical effort since a so-called “mountain of strength” must be overcome.

The Ganymed walking aid, however, avoids such effort expenditure with its S form, thereby facilitating quadrupedal posture and keeping the point of ground contact in view. Moreover, with a hardy bionic construction using the newest of materials, the walking aid is ultralight yet still able to withstand high amounts of stress.
